Rather than lyrics, I though I’d highlight a few bands I got to hear at Greenbelt over the weekend.

Röyksopp: Played on the main stage, and I loved it… high energy, lots of fun. I’ve definitely been getting into electronica a bit more lately! I enjoyed the woman dressed as an owl… purely for entertainments sake… and the lighting for the show was great. So maybe I enjoyed it for the visuals as much as the music…!
The Invisible: I’d never heard of these guys before, but their debut album has been nominated for a Mercury prize.
Foy Vance: It’s always a pleasure to see Foy play, and even more so to have him be the last thing I see at Greenbelt.
Agents of Future: These guys lead worship at the service on Sunday morning. I’ve gotta be honest and say that I don’t think it worked – I love the music and loved the arrangements, but it wasn’t ideal for leading communal musical worship, pretty hard to sing along to. BUT I would really love to hear more of their stuff, so check them out.
Duke Special: Greenbelt was the first time I’ve actually seen Duke play live, and despite missing the start of it (while I was off at another session) I really enjoyed what I did see.
There you have it… musical recommendations from Greenbelt. What’s been the soundtrack of your week? Anyone see any other great music at Greenbelt?

I got the chance to meet & talk with a few of the TWLOHA UK crew at Greenbelt over the weekend. I’ve been following their story for a few years now, after a friend introduced me to it back in Chicago. I love it.
There have been so many points along my journey when their hope, and their words, have been the thing that has saved me. To read words that can bring you back to life… there’s something so precious in that.
“You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you’re part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters.”
To Write Love On Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. Find out more on the TWLOHA website.

I spent my volunteering time at Greenbelt promoting a new Christian Aid youth resource, the Sofa Sessions. Pretty cool new resource designed to get young people discussing and debating issues of global importance in an informal, relaxed way.

More Greenbelt thoughts and photographs shall be appearing here over the next few days.

Tomorrow, I depart for Greenbelt! Bring it on.

I’m ready for a change of pace. I probably wont be on the blog much until after Greenbelt, but if you’re there come say hi!

I’ve put a few new things up on the Poverty Monologues blog, including a link to a great article by DFID on it, and a few photographs I snapped on Wednesday night when I saw the show.

Normal service will resume here in a while…. you know, that nice, undefined period of time.

I’m enjoying the little bit of time I’ve been getting to spend in Edinburgh this week, and making the most of it by catching a few shows.
Poverty Monologues: Great show that I’ve been doing some promotional work for. It’s a series of monologues based on conversations Platform2 volunteers have had while living & working in remote communities in Ghana, South Africa, India and Peru. I was genuinely really impressed with this show… it’s running until Saturday in Venue 45.
Tomb To Womb: Saw this today when I finished work. Interesting concept, but didn’t quite fill out some of the story areas I’d have liked. That said, I’m no theatre critic… there was a cool dance piece at the end too though.
Scribble: I’m going to see this tonight with a friend. It’s being put on by Urban Poets, and intrigues me greatly…
Anyone else discovered any hidden gems in this years Fringe?

I’m having a crazy week, so forgive me if I’m not around here much. I’ll update ya as much as I can, though I’m having issues with the WordPress app on my phone, so it might be a bit sparse.

I wanted to highlight that today is World Humanitarian Day. I’ve been reading about it a bit as I got back to work today, and as I tried to think what I could share, I realised that Neil Barry said it a lot better than I could…
“On this World Humanitarian Day I remember what makes humanitarian workers different – they are prepared to risk their lives for the convictions of their work.”
Read the rest of his blog on the DFID website. I’ve got so many memories of the short bursts of work I’ve done in the field, and so many more of the campaigning, advocacy and fundraising work I’ve been doing here in the UK. How about you – what do you think of World Humanitarian Day?

“Don’t be like some broken lawyer, always asking for answers, always reaching for rewind. Guilt and regret, those are awful places. You know that. So don’t live there. Do not despair. Do not be afraid. Grace is the interesting thing.
…
And God must be a pretty big fan of “today”, because you keep waking up to it. You have made known your request for a hundred different yesterdays, but the sun keeps rising on this thing that has never been known. Yesterday is dead and over. Wrapped in grace. Those days are grace. You are still alive, and today is the most interesting day.”

Today I had a massage. It was heaven.
Tomorrow I’m heading through to Edinburgh for a little Poverty Monologues prep & some time to hang out with some good friends.
Every morning I wake up to a new day. So do you.
What are we doing about it?

DCB are one of the few Christian bands who can keep me interested musically. I adore the bridge at the end of this…
When clouds veil sun
And disaster comes
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
When waters rise
And hope takes flight
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
Ever faithful
Ever true
You I know
You never let go
You never let go
You never let go
You never let go
When clouds brought rain
And disaster came
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
When waters rose
And hope had flown
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
Oh, my soul
Overflows
Oh, what love, oh, what love
Oh, my soul
Fills hope
Perfect love that never lets go
Oh, what love, oh, what love
Oh, what love, oh, what love
In joy and pain
In sun and rain
You’re the same
Oh, You never let go
[Never Let Go – David Crowder Band]
You?

“And they said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh.”
[Gen 37:19]
I sense the winds changing. I feel pulled more and more towards storytelling through creative arts. Photography. Graphic design. Sketching.
I’m not quite sure what to make of it. I’m not sure where it’s going. But it’s changing.
