Away

I’m off to Gourock tomorrow morning to stay with my friend Jill…

You may remember me mention Jill before, we meet while we were both in Chicago over the summer. She was there for the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, but had flown out a few days early, which is how we bumped into her… My Exodus team was visiting some of Willow’s ministries about a week before the Summit, and Jill was there too, so she joined us for the rest of the day… and we meet a few times during the Summit too.

She ministers in a church in Gourock, which is not too far from Glasgow, so I’m heading over tomorrow to catch up with her and have a wee break out of the city!

Jill has a lovely heart… she is so open, genuine, and loving… she makes you feel at ease very quickly! She is also pretty astute… she knows what it is you need, and she’ll try to give you it if she can (i.e. discernment).

I’m excited about catching up and meeting some of her young people from the church!

Cultural malarkay

Sorry for the lack of postage over the last few days, been keeping myself busy over here! Thursday morning (wow thats only yesterday, feels like longer ago) I had to enrol at university at 9am, so I spent a few hours down around campus (my halls are a 20/25 min walk away) to have a nosy and see where things where. While I was doing this I stumbled into the Hunterian Art Gallery, and actually suprised myself by how much I enjoyed it! There was a sneak preview of a ‘dramatic monologue’ on which I caught, entitled ‘When The Moon Was Overhead.’ It is about the art/life of Francis Macdonald McNair, and was really good actually! If you’re in the Glasgow area I recommend you check it out, being performed at the Hunterian on Sundays at 3pm.

I also discovered how much I love the art of James McNeill Whistler. You’ve possibly heard of his most famous painting (I think) entitled ‘Whistler’s Mother’ (as featured in Mr Bean, of all places). They have quite a lot of his work in the Hunterian, so it was really cool to walk around and see some stuff I’d never seen before. Quite chauffed that I’m enjoying the more ‘cultural’ side of Glasgow as well.

Right I really should head off to bed here, keeping the most ridiculous hours these days! Goodnight all…

I Live Here

my room

Welcome to my new house! Having fun here in Glasgow, getting settled in. She’s a bit bigger than Ahoghill/Ballymena hi!

Leaving on a jet plane…

Well, not really. It’s only a boat. Not that fast. Tomorrow morning I am getting on a ferry, travelling across Scotland, and officially becoming a student and resident in Glasgow.

AHH!!!

I was walking around Sainsbury’s yesterday with my friend, and suddenly had this dawning realisation that next week I actually have to do this for myself! Buy my own food, cook for myself, do all my own cleaning… be independant. Could be interesting!

But now I really should go and finish packing. Next time I post I will be moved into my new accomodation! Exciting! See you on the Scot-side.
