I know I’ve been terribly lax in filling you all in on the details of my move back to Northern Ireland – please forgive me! Over the last few months I’ve been dialoguing with Rob Bryce about finding a way to work together under the auspices of his film production company, Blue Stone Film, where I’ll get a chance to use my photography & social media skills. We’re still figuring it all out, but suffice to say I am loving it so far!
It’s coming together slowly, but I moved back last week and jumped straight into work! We were involved in a shoot for AB Distributors last week, who held a very swanky event for their clients at the Baby Grand in Belfast. With the aid of a little drama and a lot of humour, AB Distributors joined their clients in looking at best practices and how to show off their excellent products.
Sorry the blog has been so quiet lately – it’s been a bit of a crazy couple of weeks. I moved back to Northern Ireland on Tuesday, so had a very full few days of enjoying Glasgow and my friends there, before diving straight into work.
No lyrics today, but I thought I’d share a few of the albums I’ve been listening to lately….
Carlos Whitakker’s EP is FINALLY on iTunes UK… you will want to pick this EP up, seriously – it’s great. I can now stop listening to the chorus of this on repeat on Los’ website, and listen to it in it’s entirety. I love the chorus, the audacity of it, the trust… I long to sing those words honestly.
We fix our eyes on You, You are God alone
We fix our eyes on You, You’re our only hope
For all we have to lose is our very souls
Save us from these comforts
Break us of our need for the familiar
Spare us any joy that’s not of You
And we will worship You
Yeah, we will worship You
Satisfy us, Lord, in Your unfailing love
Satisfy us, Lord, that You would be enough
We have nothing here, let Your kingdom come
Learning how to use this bad boy today. Using it to design a wedding album, have been told the best way to learn the software is to set myself a project. So here goes!
I have been falling in love with poetry all over again lately, and in particular performance poetry. There is something that moves me so deeply when I listen to words being performed; the rhythm and the cadence, the beat.
I recently discovered the IndieFeed: Performance Poetry podcast, and have been listening to it non-stop for the last few days. There is such a wealth of good material in it, it’s worth digging through the archives if you like what you hear.
My favourite piece so far is probably still Anis Mojgani’s “Shake The Dust”. He performed it at TWLOHA Heavy & Light tour recently, where this was recorded…
“When the world knocks at your front door
Clutch the knob tightly
And open on up…”
I finished off the edits from the Aspden wedding a couple weeks back, and with their permission are now using some of the images to help promote my work. There’s a gallery of 30 images up on the site now – please do check it out here and let me know what you think! It’s definitely a steep learning curve, but I’m happy with what I got for a first attempt. Excited to start thinking about my next wedding.
September air comes cold
Feelings rush back and unfold
Speeing, crashing, burning through
Memories in my mind with you
Gone so fast too fast to catch
Years have gone and can’t come back
So now i’ve closed my eyes
Closing seconds of our time
See the shore light up night sky
See the beach swing summers high
August shower after heat
Smell of rain on dry concrete
Feel the air turn cold around
See leaves fall blur the ground
Wet road slide slither by
Catch reflections petrol sky
Will you wait here
It’s coming around near
When I feel I can’t move on
And my will is not so strong
Moments of uncertainty
Behind your smile I want to be
Down the front where we used to talk
Down the streets where we used to walk
These places I will be
Will you meet me?
While I’m still please do not wake me
‘Cause I’m in another place
It took a long time to get here in the mail, but I’ve finally got the chance to read Mark Batterson’s latest book, Primal.
Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity explores what it means to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Mark takes us on a journey with him, in which he often writes honestly of his own struggles, failures, and successes.
I’ll be honest, I hoped for more from it. Much of what it said seemed to be reiterating ideas from Mark’s first book, In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day. But as I thought more about it, I was challenged to look into my heart and see how much head knowledge I have and how little I truly act on. It’s challenging me to step forward and make some changes, act on the things I believe in, rather than just believing them.
“Faith without works is dead…”

The fox gazed at the little prince, for a long time.
“Please–tame me!” he said.
“I want to, very much,” the prince replied. “But I have not much time. I have friends to discover, and a great many things to understand.”
“One only understands the things that one tames,” said the fox. “Men have no more time to understand anything. They buy things all ready made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends anymore. If you want a friend, tame me…”
“What must I do, to tame you?” asked the little prince.
“You must be very patient,” replied the fox. “First you will sit down at a little distance from me–like that–in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings. But you will sit a little closer to me, every day…”
