A few weeks ago I got to spend some time in Chicago – easily my favourite US city! It was a joy to wander around this beautiful city, taking in the incredible architecture, despite the freezing cold temperatures. Wind chill was taking it out of me majorly! I stayed with Hannah, whom I met briefly last time I was here – she has the craziest, hectic lifestyle, yet she also has such a heart for people and will make time for you regardless of what is going on. It was a real blessing to get to know her a bit more!
I took in some of the main sights, including Millennium Park, the Bean, Soldier Field, and Michigan Avenue. Not to mention lunch at Eds! Thanks to ‘Free February’ I got to take in the Art Institute of Chicago one day, well worth a visit.
I also went to the Museum of Contemporary Photography, at Columbia College, to take in some excellent photography, especially an exhibition titled ‘This Land Is Your Land’ offering diverse perceptions of the United States.
As a Chicago-area native, I’m pleased to see that you find this area pleasing. However, after having read your “about,” I think you sound perfectly delightful — you love travel, you love photography, you love books, and you call yourself a geek. And best of all, you love Jesus. Sounds like me!
Perhaps on your next visit to Chicago, we can meet for coffee.
@ waltzingaustralia: thanks for the comment! how’d you find me? I fell in love with Chicago in 2006 when I was out, so it was about time I made it back to explore some more! I’ll definitely keep you in mind for my next trip out.
I was just browsing through the Travel posts and saw the title Chicago. That will always catch my eye. Reading your “about me” was what made me want to leave a note, however.
Now, I know this is a long shot, but I have a couple of friends who are photographers in Glasgow, and they’re Christians, and those are fairly finite communities — so any chance you know Ken and Janet Thomson? They’d be a fair bit older than you (as am I), but they’re lovely people. I know it’s unlikely — but it never hurts to ask, and I find that this world is often remarkably small.
God bless you in your photography and your pursuit of Him.
I don’t know those guys, but I just found their website, and I’m planning to drop them a wee email now! Thanks for the heads-up. How do you know them?
They lived in the Chicago area for several years, and we went to the same church (Mundelein Vineyard).
I love the art institute
