Never Let The Spirit Die

Caught Foy’s gig when he was in town on Wednesday night… the guy blows me away every single time, he’s an incredible performer!

Since, rather unexpectedly, catching his gig in Belfast in Feb, I’ve had an old Van Morrison song stuck in my head, Spirit. After a little youtubing, here’s Foy playing it… listen all the way.

Lyrics On Friday

I’ve been a bit lax on posting this week, apologies. It’s been a beautiful week… a few days pottering around Glasgow with my best, a little Foy, and a return to the Motherland. Spent yesterday afternoon meandering in the Belfast sunshine… love that city! I’ll write more soon, but for now… how about a song of the week?

I don’t know where I crossed the line
Was it something that I said
Or didn’t say this time
And I don’t know if it’s me or you
But I can see the skies are changing
In all the shades of blue
And I don’t know which way it’s gonna go

If it’s gonna be a rainy day
There’s nothing we can do to make it change
We can pray for sunny weather
But that won’t stop the rain
Feeling like you got no place to run
I can be your shelter ’til it’s done
We can make this last forever
So please don’t stop the rain

(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain
(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain

I thought that time was on our side
I’ve put in far too many years
To let this pass us by
You see live is a crazy thing
There’ll be good time and there’ll be bad times
And everything in between
And I don’t know which way it’s gonna go

If it’s gonna be a rainy day
There’s nothing we can do to make it change
We can pray for sunny weather
But that won’t stop the rain
Feeling like you got no place to run
I can be your shelter ’til it’s done
We can make this last forever
So please don’t stop the rain

(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain
(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain

Oh ___
And finally what life’s it’s all about
Yeah I know you just can’t stand it
When leaves don’t grow your way (?)
But we’ve got no control over what happens anyway

If it’s gonna be a rainy day
There’s nothing we can do to make it change
We can pray for sunny weather
But that won’t stop the rain
Feeling like you got no place to run
I can be your shelter ’til it’s done
We can make this last forever
So please don’t stop the rain

(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain
(Let it fall, let it fall, let it fall)
Please don’t stop the rain

How about you? What songs been stuck in your head this week?

Lyrics On Friday

Listening to Kings of Leon ‘Only By The Night’ album this week. Some amazing songs..

I’ve been roaming around
Always looking down at all I see
Painted faces, building places I cant reach

You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody

Someone like you, And all you know, And how you speak
Countless lovers under cover of the street

You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody
Someone like you

Off in the night, while you live it up, I’m off to sleep
Waging wars to shape the poet and the beat
I hope it’s gonna make you notice
I hope it’s gonna make you notice

Someone like me
Someone like me
Someone like me, somebody

I’m ready now
I’m ready now
I’m ready now
I’m ready now
I’m ready now
I’m ready now
I’m ready now

Someone like you, somebody
Someone like you, somebody
Someone like you, somebody

I’ve been roaming around,
Always looking down at all I see

[Use Somebody by Kings of Leon]

What are you listening to?

Lyrics On Friday

I’m a big fan of the Fray, and have been going back to their newest album again and again. Their song ‘You Found Me’ has been the soundtrack to my week, the song that I’ve been singing in my head every day as I wander around.

I found god
On the corner of first and Amistad
Where the west was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I Said where you been, he said ask anything
Where were you?
When everything was falling apart
All my days were spent by the telephone
It never rang
And all I needed was a call
That never came
To the corner of first and Amistad

Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

In the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who’s ever known
Who I am, who I’m not, who I want to be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

Early morning, City breaks
I’ve been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never send me no letters
You got some kind of nerve, taking all I want

Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Where were you where were you

Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

Why’d you have to wait?
To find me, to find me

What’s been running through your head this week?

Lyrics On Friday

Been listening to a lot of The Script this week…

I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don’t believe in
Cos I got time while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don’t break even

Her best days will be some of my worst
She finally met a man that’s gonna put her first
While I’m wide awake she’s no trouble sleeping
Cos when a heart breaks no it don’t break even, even no

What am I suppose to do when the best part of me was always you
what am I suppose to say when i’m all choked up and you’re OK
I’m falling to pieces
I’m falling to pieces

They say bad things happen for a reason
But no wise words gonna stop me bleeding
Cos she moved on while I’m still grieving
And when a heart breaks no it dont break even

You got his heart and my heart and none of the pain
You took your suitcase, I took the blame
Now I’m tryna make sence of what little remains
Cos you left with no love, with no love to my name

I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing
Just prayed to a god i don’t believe in
Cos I got time while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don’t break even
No it don’t break, no it dont break even, no

What have you been listening recently?

Lyrics On Friday

There are a number of songs that I feel have had such a massive impact on me, so much so that I would say they’ve saved my life more times than once. A recent one of those songs is Stall Out by MuteMath…

Racing on a faultline
Bracing for a landslide
Conscious of everything getting harder
As the race goes underwater

I keep stalling out
I just can’t keep up
There’s alarming doubt
Am I good enough?
But you keep coming around
to convince me
It’s still far from over
(x3)

We are still far
We are still far
We are still far
from over
(repeat out)
